H-D Detachables Sideplates is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick Detach for Sissy Bar This was purchased for a 2011 Heritage so all I needed extra was the hardware kit for use with saddlebags. Moving the taillight assembly is not necessary for the newer model Heritage. Instructions for installing the hardware kit include not only the detachable side plate but also two other available accessories so it can get a little confusing. If you are mounting the side plate kit only, my recommendation is to study the illustration in figure 15 on the last page and you will get the picture. Before you can install the new hardware, you have to remove the old rigid side plates. A tip: remove the bag mount studs first and then loosen the rear most Torx screw (do NOT remove completely) and carefully swing the mount to the rear. Install the two new mounting bolts and then remove the Torx screw and side plate and continue with the install. I say this because if you remove all three bolts at once, the part behind the fender that holds the bolts in place falls out of position and is difficult to get back into place because of the small gap between the tire and the inside of the fender. All in all the hardware kit is by far the most time consuming part of the swap. The side plates are a no-brainer. All the parts are complete and are very well made. My only complaint is the price of the hardware kit ($39.99) which is way too much for what you get. My sissy bar and luggage rack now swap out in a matter of seconds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great In my case there is a small amount of play in the attachment mechanism that wasn't there when it was hard-bolted which you can hear when hitting bumps but I'm still happy with it.

Can I use stock backrest with new detachable sideplates?

Just bought a 2017 Heritage and would like to install detachable sideplates, do I need a new backrest and pad or will the stock ones the bike came with work with the detachable sideplates? Also do I need to order the mounting hardware with the plates for the 2017 model?

I have a 2013 heritage. I already have detachable saddle bags and was wondering if it is still possible to put on detachable side plates?

    Asked by: coopernicus
Hi Coopernicus, I am assuming you have a Heritage Softail Classic?! H-D does offer a detachable for a 2013 FLSTC. The part number for this item is 53815-00A. FYI: It is still possible, but may require a few "minutes" of your time. Hope this helps!
