Engine guards may provide limited leg and cosmetic vehicle protection under unique circumstances (fall over while stopped, very low speed slide). They are not made nor intended to provide protection from bodily injury in a collision with another vehicle or any other object.

Engine Guard Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for highway pegs I wanted this for highway pegs. It works well and is easy to install. Instructions are useless, mine said "see service manual". You do need the steering dampener as mentioned. Not mentioned is you also need two bolts to bolt this item to the frame, bolts not included. These holes have black tag 'christmas tree' plugs stuck in them. Also, due to the placement of the engine guard, my forks do not lock now. The huge acorn nut holding the steering dampener to the forks, hits the engine guard bar when trying to get them in locking position. My immediate solution was to flip the bolt upside down and that works, allowing the forks to go to locking position. Long run, just replace the decorative acorn nut monstrosity with a regular washer and nut.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from engine guard nice heavy bar and the chrome is really nice, now for the new FLRT freewheeler you do need the steering damper #83865-09 but after getting my order and putting it on there were no lower bolts to attach the lower part of the guard, they didn't come with the order and there not on the bike, there is black plastic plugs in it's place. so if you get theses for your freewheeler get the bolts!!!!!

What size bolts to use for the Freewheeler?

Wanting to install this engine guard on the Freewheeler, but the engine guard did not come with the bottom bolts to fasten to the bike. What size bolts are needed? Are the required bolts available for purchase?

      Chromed steel or stainless steel??

I have the stock engine guard on my 2002 FLHRI...Hit a PotHole the other day and the stress on the front end broke the Engine guard just right of the top bolt. Are they made of chrome plated steel...or polished stainless steel?? Thanks Mike
